Anglo Saxons had a holiday which took place in the Spring celebrating the goddess Eastre. She was the goddess of fertility and springtime and her earthly symbol was the rabbit.
When the Anglo Saxons converted to Christianity, the holiday worshiping Eastre was merged into the Christian celebration and the holiday became known, as time went on, as Easter.
